Internet Explorer 9 Announced at PDC 2009

ie9 Sinofsky stated that IE 9 is currently 3 weeks into development, so there weren’t any major breakthroughs or amazing rendering engine/performance improvements as of yet, but he made it pretty clear that their ultimate goal was to improve the rendering engine and speed up your web browsing experience.

Sinofsky admitted the fact that IE8 did terrible on the Acid3 test, which Webkit-based browsers pass or nearly pass with flying colors. IE8 got an Acid3 score of 24/100, however, this new IE9 build managed to increase that score to 32/100, which is a good sign for the future of IE. Sinofsky also stated that IE9 will have HTML 5 support and increased Javascript performance, along with CSS3 support.

Another feature that they’re building into the rendering engine is hardware accelerated graphics and text. In one demo, Sinofsky showed that Bing maps got around 14 FPS without hardware acceleration. Once enabled, however, he got 60 FPS without making any changes to the page. More Info …

    Thanx for your feedback jake_ie8team,

Personally, I started the web with IE5 then 6 and after that I admired firefox very much -even after IE7 release-. Firefox was my default browser far along time with many addons enabled. Till IE8, Everthing changed. I found that IE became faster more secure and have less bugs and crashes.

I shocked after seeing firefox crashing more than once with the release of 3 series and with more releases, I hoped they will fix this issues, but no, They did the opposite. Firefox became more heavy on resources and the 1st start time became longer and longer ….. .

Really, I should admit that IE became the best browser of choice and hope firefox team will realize this fact to revalue their way of developing firefox.

Anyway, I am using them both but IE is the default.
